Stoneleigh Planting
The border in this small courtyard was originally quite sparse and the owner had struggled with establishing plants in the space. The design was for a courtyard full of plants and pollinators, with a soft palette of mainly blues and whites. The first job was to remove the weed suppressing membrane, as this was stopping plant life really taking hold. We dug in lots of fresh compost to improve the soil and then brought in the new planting. To make sure the scheme tied together, we repeated lots of plants through the space - including digging up and dividing the existing Iris to make new plants. Salvias, Scabious and Geraniums bring in new beautiful blue tones to be followed later in the season with Phlox, Veronicastrum and Asters. We lost a few Lupins to the slugs last spring (so wet!) but the ones that made it through are fabulous and are full of bees. A lovely space!
